The Nenna Kind Centre opened in October 2010 and offers a place for cancer patients, their family and friends to call in and have a chat to one of our volunteers. We have found through experience that family can sometimes be too close to talk as they are feeling confused and upset as well.
We provide benefits advice through Macmillan by appointment, and also alternative therapies, eg. Healing, Reflexology, Massage and Shiatsu and if clients are just feeling tired they can just drop in for a sit down and a drink for as long as they want. The centre is run by volunteers and all our services are free of charge, although donations are always gratefully accepted.
This centre has been named “The Nenna Kind Centre” after Helen Hinde, Nenna because her niece couldn’t say Helen and caller her Aunty Nenna, and Kind because a little girl at the pre school Helen worked at thought her name was Mrs Kind and so she got nick named “Nenna Kind”.
Sadly Helen lost her long battle with cancer in January 2011 but her legacy will live on through this centre, where we hope to give help and encouragement to all who are affected by cancer.
