THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
In 2010 at the request of our daughter Helen, we set up a cancer support centre in Chesterfield. It wasn’t easy to find premises, furniture and all the other things we needed to make the centre a welcoming and comfortable place.
The hardest, yet the most important thing for us was to find suitable volunteers. We wanted our volunteers to have had some contact with cancer patients, so that they’d be able to listen and empathise. It’s very difficult to understand the concerns, fears and emotions of a cancer patient if you haven’t had personal involvement yourself.
We managed to find lovely people who fitted this criteria and now have 11 volunteers and 6 therapists, without whom the centre wouldn’t exist. Their main jobs are to listen to clients, and give therapies. However, in addition to that, they help with keeping the centre clean, help with fundraising on market stalls, model at fashion shows, make clothes and costumes, dress up for Medieval Markets, make tea, do the accounts, write news letters, keep social media up to date, not to mention a multitude of other jobs!
Without these wonderful people who give their time free of charge, there would be no Nenna Kind Cancer Support Centre. David and I can’t begin to express how grateful we are to them all for their support.
